Established in Taiwan in 1989, the company Macronix became the world's largest supplier of mask ROM and EPROMS. Today the company produces NOR Flash, NAND Flash and ROM products for communications, computers, automobiles and networks. In 2012 the company has developed a process to extend the life of solid state drives.
The company develops specialized memory chips for the entertainment electronics industry, such as the Nintendo 3DS and Samsung's portable electronic devices.
In 2014, the company employed around 4,500 employees and expanded its branches in Europe, USA, Japan, Korea, Singapore and China by 2016.
