Semtech was founded in 1960, but was published in 1967. Headquartered in Camarillo, California (USA) the company has more than 700 employees, with locations in the US, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and China. Originally it focused on the military and aviation market. In the early 1990s, Semtech acquired the Lambda Electronics Semiconductor Division and switched to the commercial semiconductor market. Today, Semtech is a leading provider of analog and mixed signal semiconductors (integrated circuits or ICs) used in computer, communications and industrial applications. Under the leadership of Rockell N. Hankin and Mohan R. Matheswaran, the company generated sales of 285 million US dollars in 2008 and took over several companies such as Xemics, Monolithik and Gennum Corporation.

The company sells proprietary solutions and breakthrough technology in power management, protection, advanced communications, human interface, test & measurement, as well as wireless and sensing products. The company's integrated circuits (ICs) are used in communications, computer and computer peripheral, automated test equipment, industrial and other commercial applications.
